AFLW Grand Final Entertainment: Delta Goodrem suspended for Brisbane Lions clash with Melbourne Demons

Delta Goodrem will be leading the pre-game entertainment at the AFLW Grand Finals this weekend.

The Herald Sun has reported that the Australian singer will perform at Brisbane’s new base in Springfield ahead of the Premier League decision between the Lions and Demons on Sunday.

Goodrem was the surprise guest alongside British superstar Robbie Williams at the pre-game entertainment ahead of the AFL Finals in September.

The pair put on one of the most memorable AFL Grand Final performances in recent memory and lit up the stadium to make history with The Killers as one of the league’s biggest coups on the highlight day of their calendar.

Goodrem will perform on the newly laid Springfield turf, which has only been operational for a few days for both the Lions’ men and women.

“In what has been an incredible season for AFLW, I am grateful to have been invited to appear at one of the most exciting sports games of the year,” Goodrem said.

Kylie Rogers, the league’s executive general manager of customer and commercial, said it had been a massive coup for the AFLW.

“The 2022 pre-game entertainment is a highlight for many fans and Delta’s performance will be the perfect start to what is sure to be an amazing on-field showdown,” Rogers told the Herald Sun.

“Delta’s talent for connecting with her audience and the energy she brings will be an exciting asset to the day.

“Their ability to connect with those around them will be fully showcased.”

Brisbane’s new home base will have a sold-out crowd of around 7000 people for the big game, with the larger ground Metricon Stadium and the Gabba unavailable at this time of year.

One person who will not be there is outgoing AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, who has flown on a delayed vacation.

McLachlan was due to end up as boss of the competition at the end of 2022, but with issues such as the Hawthorn racism saga and a 19th license to Tasmania, he will now stay until round five next year.

The Lions go into the grand finals as firm favorites after losing just one game this season and with the surprise AFLW best and fairest winner, Ally Anderson, trailing her midfield partner Emily Bates on Tuesday night.

Melbourne beat North Melbourne last week to advance to the big dance and will be looking to put some silverware in their empty AFLW trophy cabinet after a second big last try after losing to Adelaide in the season six decider earlier this year.
