The message from Lee Seung Gi has not been paid for his music throughout his 18-year career with Hook Entertainment understandably shocked many people, but it’s no big surprise now that a new Dispatch report revealed that CEO Kim Jin Young threatened Lee Seung Gi after requesting content certification.
The audio begins with Kim Jin Young talking about how scary she is.
“I’m the kind of person that when I get really angry, I get very calm and logical. I get very hot. But I must get very angry. When I’m not that mad I just yell, “Hey, [email protected]!It goes so far that even I scare myself. This has been my illness since I was young. I would become so scary and callous that people would say I would become a murderer and that I would become a very bad person. I’m getting very (scary) like this, and I’m starting to get like this now. Now that he’s not holding back and has asked for our accounting records, he really doesn’t seem to be holding back.”
She later swears that she will kill Lee Seung Gi.
CEO: “I swear on my name I will kill him. I will spend the rest of my life killing Lee Seung Gi. This mother [email protected] I swear.”
Executive: “CEO Kwon”
CEO: “Shut up, stop what you’re doing. I’ll spend the rest of my life killing him.
She then repeats the threat to Lee Seung Gi’s manager, blaming the accounting department. At one point, Lee Seung Gi’s managers leave and resign, being comforted by a hook manager. He also relevantly mentions that the CEO told him that the Lee Seung Gis are ready.
Manager: “What do you know? I was always teased and in front of everyone (the CEO) he said Lee Seung Gi was done. How can I work when she says, ‘Choose wisely who you want to be loyal to’, I could take it.”
I suppose knowing now that Hook has been not only cheating on Lee Seung Gi, but also manipulating him for almost two decades, these outbursts come as no shock. Luckily, whoever leaked this to Dispatch is helping Lee Seung Gi’s case with all of this, and honestly, if they did this to him, I can only wonder what else they’re hiding.
Also, another report basically revealed that Lee Seung Gi’s seeming naivety about his status as a singer was actually because he was being paid for the rest of his career.
Lee Seung Gi has made a lot of money from his appearances in K-Dramas, variety shows and commercials. His performance fee is very expensive. According to the Dispatch article, Lee Seung Gi was duly paid for this effort.
The article claims that Lee Seung Gi was happy with the amount he was paid, and for that reason he didn’t want to challenge the agency’s claim that he wasn’t a profitable singer.
Of course, it was still crazy that she got away with it and told him to consider singing as fanservice.
The CEO always said, “You’re a minus singer. Your fans never spend money but charge so much. You have earned a lot of money through other (acting, variety) projects. Just think of your singing career as fanservice.’ She brainwashed him. If he had asked her about the accounts, he would have been scolded. Lee Seung Gi chose not to be cursed rather than get paid.
There are also text messages in which the CEO instructs the manager to avoid paying Lee Seung Gi’s labor costs on principle and essentially endorse him.
Nothing really to add. Unless it’s all made up somehow, I hope he gets every penny he owes from them. Also, I at least assume this has to be a scam at some point, but I won’t hold my breath when it comes to the legal system against powerful corporations.
