Hook Entertainment Releases New Statement Regarding Unpaid Music Prize Dispute With Lee Seung Gi

Hook Entertainment has responded to Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative that the singer has not been paid for his music releases for the past 18 years.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Lee Seung Gi had sent his agency, Hook Entertainment, a content certification requesting transparent payment disclosure. Recently, the agency’s office building was also confiscated and ransacked by the Serious Crimes Investigation Branch of the National Police Agency on suspicion of embezzlement by some executives. On November 21, Dispatch released a report claiming that Lee Seung Gi had not received any of his earnings from his music and was missing explanations for five years from 2004 to 2009. Kwon Jin Young, CEO of Hook Entertainment, responded briefly, that they are in the process of verifying the facts. On November 24, Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative confirmed that Lee Seung Gi was never made aware of his music winnings and received insults and threats when asking for details of the settlement.

In addition, multiple media outlets raised questions regarding veteran singer Lee Sun Hee’s relationship with Lee Seung Gi’s unfair treatment as she is listed as the director of Hook Entertainment.

On November 25, Hook Entertainment shared its stance on the above matters with the following statement:

Hello, this is Hook Entertainment.

First of all, we are ashamed and want to apologize to everyone for the ongoing negative news that has been leaked lately and the current dispute between us and Lee Seung Gi. In particular, we would like to apologize to Lee Seung Gi who is going through a difficult time as a result.

We also want to bow our heads and apologize to those hurt by CEO Kwon Jin Young’s inappropriate words and actions.

As noted in Hook Entertainment’s press release, we have been in the process of securing and organizing accurate data in response to content certification received from Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative. It is unfortunate that the media has reported information that has not been properly verified.

When Hook Entertainment and Lee Seung Gi re-signed to an exclusive deal after the original termination of our exclusive deal in 2021, both parties verified all of the billing details of [Lee Seung Gi’s] career and we have resolved the bond-debt financial relationship between our company and Lee Seung Gi. Both parties have also signed an agreement confirming such facts.

Nonetheless, at the request of Lee Seung Gi, Hook Entertainment is once again closely examining with experts the significant amount of profit settlement that Hook Entertainment has paid to Lee Seung Gi.

In addition, the recent report by a certain media company about the content of the contract of Lee Seung Gi and Hook Entertainment, such as differ from the truth.

Currently we plan to organize things clearly and correct our mistakes and take responsibility if a mistake turns out. As a celebrity management company that should have cultivated relationships with its artists based on faith and trust, we apologize again.

Additionally, in the case of Lee Sun Hee, because she was an artist who was with Hook Entertainment from the start, she was nominally listed as a director out of courtesy, but from 2006 to 2021 Hook Entertainment was a one-person company owned by Kwon Jin Young’s 100 percent stake, and Lee Sun Hee has never been involved in corporate governance or profit sharing matters.

At the same time, Hook Entertainment announces that we will not tolerate the speculation of defamation and harm to its artists and will pursue strict legal action through our legal representative.

Many Thanks.
