The continent’s top women softball players compete for the title of continental champion, as well as a chance to qualify for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA (November 17, 2022) — After five exciting days of group play, the leaders of the 2022 Pan American Softball Championship head into the quarterfinals today, where teams will battle for a chance to reach the semifinals and keep their medal hopes alive.

The Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals of this continental championship will be streamed live on Panam Sports Channel November 17-19. The women’s live softball action begins today at 12:45 p.m. in Guatemala City, Guatemala (1:45 p.m. ET).

A total of 13 countries in America competed in the championship hoping for a podium spot, but after the group stage, led by the United States, who finished a perfect 6-0 in the qualifying rounds, only eight remain.

Team USA will be joined by Canada – their opponents in the Quarters, who will be broadcasting the first game live on Panam Sports Channel – as well as Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela in the Quarters. Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic and Brazil have already been eliminated from the medal fight.

With the USA and Canada battling for first place in tomorrow’s semi-finals, Puerto Rico and Cuba will face off at 15:30 local time, followed by Argentina versus Mexico at 18:00 and Peru versus Venezuela at 20:30.

As the top four seeded teams, Team USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and Cuba advance to the semi-finals with a win, while a loss puts them in the hopes of relegation with their medal hopes still alive. Argentina’s winner vs Mexico then meets the USA-Canada loser, while Peru’s winner vs Venezuela meets Puerto Rico’s loser vs Cuba, with both games offering a consolation and a route to the final.

The highlights are the semi-finals on November 18th, followed by the hopefuls. Qualification for Santiago 2023 is also at stake for the teams that do not reach the quarterfinals. The losers of Argentina-Mexico and Peru-Venezuela will go head-to-head to determine the 7th- and 8th-place teams who qualify for next year’s Pan American Games.

The grand final takes place on Saturday 19th November when the repechage decides who climbs up from the losing group and takes on the semi-final winner in the top group.

The two sides knocked out of the repechage on November 18 go head-to-head to determine 5th and 6th place as the 5th-place team qualifies for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
