COLUMBUS — South Range will host a state semi-final football match next week, while a West Branch-Steubenville showdown could be a possibility in East Liverpool.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association on Thursday announced the pairings and locations for next week’s Football State semifinals. The geography of the four state semifinalists in each division is the primary factor in determining how the regional champions will be paired, the OHSAA said.
State power Kirtland could be making a trip to the Rominger Sports Complex in the South Range next Saturday, November 26th.
South Range will be the winners of the #2 Kirtland-No. 5 Mogadore and Beverly Fort Frye-Columbus Grove games in a Division VI State semifinals.
East Liverpool’s Patterson Field, which played its first game on the new artificial turf on September 9, will host a Division IV state semi-final on Saturday November 26 only if leaders Cleveland Glenville lose this Saturday.
If No. 6 Van Wert upsets the Tarblooders, Patterson Field will host the winners of the No. 5 West Branch-Jefferson Area and No. 7 Steubenville-Indian Valley games this Saturday in the Division IV semifinals.
If Glenville wins, the Tarblooders play the West Branch-Jefferson Area winner at Smilek Stadium at Canal Fulton Northwest High School. The Steubenville-Indian Valley winner would take on the No. 2 Cincinnati Wyoming no. to play. 10 Cincinnati Taft winners at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus.
Neutral sites receive a rental fee from OHSAA, and sites retain revenue from concessions, parking lots, and program sales.
In Division V, the No. 2 South Range-Perry winner plays the No. 4 Liberty Center no. 12 Bloomdale Elmwood winners on Friday November 25 at Clyde’s Robert J. Bishop Jr. Stadium.
