Summit League partners with College Sports Solutions, LLC

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Summit League today announced a partnership with College Sports Solutions (CSS) to conduct an operational review and facilitate the creation of a strategic plan for the 10-member conference.

“The future is bright for the Summit League and partnering with CSS will help us create a plan that will enhance the experience of our student-athletes and fans while serving as a roadmap for our future,” said Commissioner Josh Fenton. “We look forward to working with respected intercollegiate track and field veterans Jeff Schemmel and Kevin Weiberg to create a dynamic strategic plan that will strengthen the league as a whole.”

The CSS team is led by its founder and president, Jeff Schemmel. He has over 30 years of intercollegiate athletics management experience at the highest level, including serving as San Diego State Athletics Director before founding CSS.

“Our College Sports Solutions team looks forward to working with Commissioner Fenton, his Conference Bureau team and the Summit League member institutions,” said Schemmel. “This is an important time for Division I athletics and its conferences. A substantive and meaningful strategic plan with the ability to adapt to and capitalize on the ongoing changes in collegiate athletics is critical. We look forward to helping the Summit League grow and thrive.”

Joining Schemmel on this project is former Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg, who brings extensive knowledge and experience in conferencing, having also served in various roles at Big Ten and Pac-12 throughout his career.

“Experienced support is critical to the long-term success of the Summit League,” said Dr. Jeremy Haefner, Chancellor of the University of Denver and Chair of the Summit League Presidents Council. “I look forward to the results of the partnership with College Sports Solutions and all that will help strengthen Summit League school programs.”

The Summit League Presidents Council approved the hiring of CSS, whose extensive work is scheduled to be completed by the end of May and to present those results at the league’s annual meetings. Together with the CSS, the League will involve all member institutions in the strategic planning process.
