Why Maryland will be a top state for online sports betting at launch

Sports fans in Maryland can officially place their bets online and on their mobile devices starting Wednesday, November 23 – and that’s great news as Maryland is emerging as a top state for online sports betting.

To begin with, Maryland will launch with some of the largest, most sophisticated and popular sportsbook in the industry. These books have years of experience in the United States and have been constantly improving their products while adding more and more betting options for fans.

Books approved for licenses, each of which will partner with an existing sportsbook in the state, include:

  • Caesars — Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
  • Betfred – Long shot by Frederick
  • BetMGM – MGM National Harbor
  • betPARX – Greenmount Station Off-Track Betting & Restaurant
  • BetRivers — Bingo World
  • Bar Stool – Hollywood Casino Perryville
  • Draft Kings-Maryland State Fairgrounds
  • FanDuel — Live! Casino & Hotel
  • PointsBet – Riverboat on the Potomac
  • SuperBook Sports – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
  • BetFanatics – Coming Soon

Obviously, these are some of the most well-known names in sports betting, which should give Maryland bettors peace of mind that they are betting with the best books in the country and have access to the best markets and prices.

Over time, however, bettors in Maryland will not be limited to these 10 books, as state law allows for up to 60 online sportsbooks in the state – more options than virtually any other state. Sixty! Friends, full disclosure: I live in another legal betting state that has nearly a dozen legal online sportsbooks and I feel like my cup has already expired.

Access to 60 online sportsbooks? That would be a dream come true as it will continue to ensure Maryland fans have access to the widest range of potential bets at the best odds. (Additionally, this means you need the Action Network app to keep track of all your bets and best lines across all those books!)

Up to this point, Maryland sports bettors will be happy to know that there are no collegiate sports betting bans in the state. Several states that have legalized online and/or retail sports betting, such as New Jersey, prohibit fans from betting on college sports.

Whether you want to bet on the Maryland Terrapins, Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, the nearby Washington Commanders, or any other professional or college sports team across the country, you’re in luck in Maryland.

Maryland bettors are also free to bet on both team and player futures markets, meaning bets such as championship winners and league MVPs will be available; Some states do not allow bettors to bet on player awards such as NFL MVP.

When you add it all up — the quality and quantity of sports betting, the availability of betting in both college and pro sports, and what should be more markets to bet on than any other state — there’s no doubt that Maryland will be one of the best online sports betting states in the country.
